The word blog is an abbreviation of weblog, which originally was a simple online diary or journal. Canny internet marketers were quick to spot the potential of this platform for connecting with people and building relationships.

Blogging has now become a very popular way of strategically positioning yourself in front of potential customers. So what makes blogging such a successful internet marketing tool? There are two aspects to creating a powerful blog site: getting people to visit your site and providing good quality information for them when they land there.

With regard to getting people to visit your site a blog has advantages over a static site in that, if it is posted to often, it will gain favour with the search engines. Your blog site can be set up so that it will automatically alert search engines with a message known as a ‘ping’, whenever you add content to your site. The search engines will then respond by sending out a ‘spider’ to check what’s there. Information is taken back to the search engine’s main database and, when someone searches for information which is on your site, the search engine will display your site in its results.

Hey presto! You have visitors to your blog and the more relevant information your site contains, the more spider visits you get, the better your search engine rankings, and the more visitors you get. It’s easy to see how this develops and boosts your internet marketing business..

Now you have to give them good content and you may think that this is the tricky bit. The first thing to remember is that your post doesn’t have to be very long. Between 350 and 500 words is a good guideline. People normally pay a quick visit to a blog and posts much longer than this may not get read.

So what are you blogging about? What’s new in your market? A quick post sharing your opinion on a hot topic in your business area will generate interest. Ideally, this will attract some comments, especially if it is a contentious subject.

You may want to visit forums to find out what people are currently interested in or concerned about. You can add a brief comment on the forum with a link to your site where you have just posted a blog on this subject.

Your blogging can be about books you have read on your subject to let people know where they can find relevant information. Reviewing products in your market or associated with your market will also generate interest. Something you hear on the news or read about in the paper or a magazine can also provide subject matter for a useful blog.Once you get used to looking around for ideas, you’ll find them more and more easily.

Your site will become known for offering interesting and useful information, your readers will start to value your opinions and views, you will become seen as an authority in your business field and you will be developing the sort of relationships that eventually will convert prospects into customers for your internet marketing business.

Because your blogs are not generally sales letters or pitches, readers are more relaxed as they don’t feel they are being sold to. They can just enjoy what they are reading and appreciate the information you are sharing with them. They get to know you and what you are about. Subsequently, when you do have a sales offer, they are more likely to buy because they feel that they know you and trust you.

Remember the saying ‘People buy people first, then products.’ When people like your blogging they will want to buy from you, which after all, is what the success of your internet arketing business depends on.

5 Ways to drive traffic to your to your Facebook Fan Page

As my research of Facebook continues, I have found new ways to amp up the “Likes” on your business page. One of the ways to do that, as I have said before, is to add a Facebook landing page to your business page. Facebook is your “other” website.

Before you start driving traffic, you want to be sure that you have everything in place and ready for your new visitors. Meaning your landing page is ready, you have some posts on your wall, and have added some pictures of you interacting with others at event’s speaking on the stage, any photos that are business related. You also want to add video if you have them. Once that is ready to go you will want to do the following to drive traffic to your new Facebook page:

1. If you have 25 fans, you want to create a vanity URL in Facebook so that you can use that link everywhere you are seen on-line. To do that, go to:the Facebook URL with your username after the back slash and follow the instructions.

2. Put your Facebook logo or URL on your email signature, your newsletters, and any auto-responders you send out to your list. You get the picture, right? Don’t send anyone to your profile; make sure you are sending them to your business page URL only.

3. Start joining Forums that your target market hangs out in. Make sure it is an active forum with lots of members. When you set up your profile, put your fan page URL in your signature box. Most forums allow you to have a signature box, just make sure you follow the rules. Once you are a member, start sharing your great content, and post feedback on other discussions. You want to have at least 5-7 interactions before selling anything to the forum membership. That way you build the ‘know, like, trust’ factor. This will take some time and effort, but it will pay off if you do it.

4. Join groups and other fan pages within Facebook too! If you want to attract people who are interested in you and your business, you need to have common interests.

The first step is to do some research. Go to Amazon and find a book that you have read or an author you like that writes to your target markets needs. Click on that book, and read the testimonials to see what they say but mostly to see what the readers wish the book covered. Sometimes people will say, I loved the book, but I wish they talked more about…. That is where all the good nuggets are!

Now scroll down to see what other books have been bought by the same customers. All of this research will give you great clues to what your target market really wants.

Go back to Facebook and do a search for the author or the book titles you found on Amazon. Check to see how many fans they have. If they have a lot of fans, “Like” that page. Start interacting on the wall and in the active discussions. Again, have at least 5-7 interactions in the group so people can see you are an active member.

Once that is done, go back to the search option on Facebook and search for that author or book again, but this time click on the number of fans under the photo or logo. Start inviting those fans to be your friend. Include a personal message to let them know that you are a member of a group they belong to so they know how you found them. Add 20 friends a day, no more then that. You don’t want to get in trouble with the Facebook police!

5. Make sure to add a status update or link on your profile page that invites your new friends to “Like” your fan page so they know where to find you.

What happens is it becomes a ripple effect. Once someone sees your profile and “Likes” your fan page, their friends see that and check you out. They trust that there’s a reason their friend “Liked” you and they like you and on and on and on. Does this take time? Yes! But the time it takes it is so worth it.
